The Stream Keeps Its Tempo
A stream processor handles events continuously at a steady pace, using windows, back-pressure and checkpoints to keep up with the incoming flow without losing or duplicating data.
Streams do not wait for you to be ready. Events keep arriving, and a stream processor has to hold its pace with windows to group them, back-pressure to slow producers and checkpoints to recover after a failure. The Stream Keeps Its Tempo is the steady-state ideal: input and processing in balance, lag flat.
Watch the lag and the checkpoint duration. If either climbs, you are falling behind. Decide what to do with late events before they arrive, and size the system for the busiest hour, not the average one.
