The Forgotten Column
A forgotten column is a field that exists in a source table but was left out of a transformation, report or sync, so its data silently never arrives where people need it.
Somebody added a column to the source six months ago. The pipeline never mentioned it, the warehouse never stored it and three analysts have since worked around its absence. The forgotten column is the quietest kind of schema drift: nothing fails, something is missing.
Catch it the structured way. Compare source and target schemas on a schedule, alert on additions and decide on purpose whether to ingest, ignore or rename each one. The field nobody noticed is often the one the next project needs.
