Backups are a hope until someone restores one. The Restore Went Fine is the sentence a team wants to say about a rehearsal and not an emergency: the files were intact, the data loaded, the row counts matched and the time taken was something you could tell the business in advance.

Schedule restore tests to a separate environment and verify more than the exit code: counts, checksums and a few known records. Write down how long it took, because the recovery time is a measurement, not a wish. The sentence should be boring.
