A schema defines a database's tables, columns, types and relationships, and designing one slowly and by hand is the image of candlelit craft.
A schema is a set of promises: this column is never null, this key is unique, this relationship always resolves. Schema by Candlelight is the unhurried hour in which you decide which promises the data can keep.
Most future pain is born here, in a nullable column that should not be or a type that cannot hold tomorrow’s value. Take the time now. Read the source documentation, ask what the grain is and write down your assumptions. A schema designed slowly tends to be cheaper to live with.
