Rows in the Dark
A phrase for data that flows through a system with no monitoring, tests or lineage, so nobody knows what is in the rows or whether they are right.
Somewhere in the warehouse is a table that grows every night and has never been checked. Nobody knows its null rate, its freshness or which dashboard quietly depends on it. Rows in the Dark is about that blind spot and the discipline of turning on the light.
Start small: row counts, freshness, uniqueness on the key. Alert on the ones that matter. Observability is not a project for later. It is the difference between finding a bad row yourself and hearing about it from the CFO.
