An Orchard of KPIs
A KPI tree breaks a top-level metric into the component metrics that drive it, such as revenue into visitors, conversion rate and average order value, so a team can see which branch moved.
Revenue is the trunk. Below it branch visitors, conversion rate and average order value, and below those branch more. A KPI tree lays the drivers of a headline metric out as a hierarchy, so that when the top number moves you can walk down and find the branch responsible. An Orchard of KPIs is the tended version, with every branch owned.
Prune as you plant. Each node should be computed the same way everywhere, connect arithmetically to its parent where possible and have a named owner. A tree nobody tends becomes a thicket of dashboards.
