Guardrails Made of Pillows
Guardrails are limits built into a system to stop harmful or wasteful actions, and soft limits warn, slow down or ask for confirmation instead of failing hard.
Limits do not have to be walls. A guardrail keeps a query, an agent or a script inside a safe range, and a soft one warns, slows or asks before it stops anything. Guardrails Made of Pillows is the argument for limits that protect without punishing: a row cap with a clear message, a cost estimate before a run, a confirmation before a delete.
Keep the hard stops for what cannot be undone. Everything else can be a nudge with an explanation. A limit people understand is one they do not route around.
