A Picnic by the Data Lake
A data lake stores raw data in its original format, typically as files in cheap object storage, and applies structure later when the data is read or modeled.
Spread the blanket at the edge of the lake, where the raw data washes in: files in their original formats, each tagged with when and where it arrived. A Picnic by the Data Lake is the relaxed view of a storage pattern that keeps everything first and imposes structure later. The shore is where you inspect what landed before deciding what to cook.
Stay near the shore. Without a catalog, naming rules and a retention policy, nobody can tell which files are safe to eat, and the lake stops being a resource and becomes a hazard.
